Smaller LogoThe Walk for Education took place November 13, 2010 at Loyola Marymount University.

Three busloads of students and their parents enrolled in the Migrant Education Saturday Program participated. Contributions from loyal supporters made it possible for students to tour the college campus and receive a tee-shirt.

Brie Wells, event organizer for California Dollars for Scholars, was amazed at our turn-out and the enthusiastic cheer heard round the campus:

 

“Let’s give a cheer. Let’s give hollers
One for Drew and another for scholars!”

 

Our group was awarded a prize of $375 for the most participants and our enthusiastic cheer.

Joining in the walk were six of our scholarship recipients who were on hand to chat with the high school students about college life.

The students are serious about their academic aspirations and worried about the higher costs of college. My efforts are rekindled when I chat with these kids who are working so hard to get good grades and also at second jobs needed to pay for their education.
